Five European universities are focusing on the societal impact of the arts in a new Erasmus LLP project MAPSI, providing a new kind of study module in arts and cultural management.

MAPSI - Managing Art Projects with Societal Impact answers the identified need for arts and cultural management specialists with competencies to manage artistic projects with societal impact by developing a unique specialization program.

Gathering the best practice of partner universities and European experts, the project will focus on providing knowledge and competencies both for students as well as tutors, using learning by doing approach introduced by Laurea UAS. Estonian Business School and University of the Basque Country will contribute their expertise in creative entrepreneurship and investment in arts. University of the Arts Helsinki Sibelius Academy will add competence in novel ICT methods in education with high academic quality. Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre brings over 10 years of experience in international cultural management education based on academic and practical value.

“The developed module and the cross-sector approach will provide students with essential skills and knowledge needed in the contemporary European cultural context and labour market,” says professor Annukka Jyrämä (EAMT). Partners will work on the development of the study module, e-learning, special internships and research in the field.

The module will be tested in Summer School in Sibelius Academy and in pilots in arts and cultural management programmes. In order to take part in the pilot of this unique specialization, it is necessary to apply for a student place in partner universities.

Cultural Management MA programme in EAMT will have the admission already this June. The first group of students will start with the societal specialization pilot in September 2014.
